Nordique des crêtes returns in January after two editions canceled

Cross-country ski enthusiasts are delighted. The Nordique des crêtes will be held on January 22 and 23 at the Markstein. This event is open to club licensees, but also to amateur skiers.

It is one of the main cross-country skiing events in the Vosges Mountains. The Nordic bibs resumes service in Markstein (Haut-Rhin) on January 22 and 23, 2022, after two years of absence. “We miss her a lot“, confirms the president of the event, Eric Arnould. Four races are planned, from 3 to 21 km.

The competition was canceled in 2020 due to lack of snow, also canceled in 2021 due to the covid. “We hope not to combine the two this year“Eric Arnold wishes.

On the snow side, it’s still not that, but the low temperatures are expected the next few days are auspicious. Ten centimeters fell on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, enough resurging landscapes leached between Christmas and New Years. “We remain optimistic”says Eric Arnold. “If there is not enough snow, we go back to another course, between Markstein and Schnepfenried“.

Covid shouldn’t spoil the party. The organizers await comments from the prefecture on the protocol they want to implement. The health pass will be requested from runners and organizers, not from the public. Skiers must wear the mask until they are on the starting line and as soon as they cross the finish line.

The main constraints are felt at the level of supplies. Instead of grabbing a cereal bar or cup at the edge of the track, runners will receive a bag with a food kit and will need to refill their water bottle during the race. “Prevents a skier from contaminating all glasses by sneezing“agrees Eric Arnold.

After the race, the traditional hot meal is replaced by a cold meal. “It restricts usability, but we will do our best to keep this edition”, explains Eric Arnold. The organizers want to avoid the same fate as theCross-country skiing world cup event canceled in Les Rousses (Jura). It was scheduled for January 14-16, 2022.

Nordic Crest is a popular race. It is not reserved for ski club licensees. Anyone can register with a “race ticket”, a daily license (required for insurance purposes). “This allows fans to rub shoulders with the best athletes, on the same route”, Eric Arnold rejoices. The inscriptions They are open online until January 19, 2022.

La Nordique des crêtes is one of the few sporting events open to fans, such as the Vosges trail, organized this year on February 5 and 6 in La Bresse (Vosges).
