A moderately playing AZ has given a good follow-up to December; which was extremely successful for the club; in which it won all matches. It didn’t even have to play well against low flyer Fortuna Sittard to eventually win: 1-2.

Pascal Jansen’s team was also not lacking in luck. Fortuna Sittard created enough chances to get off the field with a better result. Thanks to the win; AZ continues to follow in the footsteps of number four Vitesse and creeps closer to number three Feyenoord that lost this weekend.
With the success formation of that extremely successful December; AZ started the game. So with Yukinari Sugawara as right winger. Only Bruno Martins Indi had to cancel because of the after-effects of a foot operation.
His replacement Sam Beukema was immediately accurate for AZ when he headed in a cross from Owen Wijndal after fourteen minutes; a production of two defenders. Beukema set up the attack herself. Last season he was also accurate eight times in the first division for Go Ahead Eagles. He often has to make do with reserve turns this season; but is nevertheless incredibly popular with the AZ supporters. That will in any case not have diminished after the match against Fortuna. In the second half he was still close to a second goal when he headed in a corner from Fredrik Midtsjø. His bet was taken off the line by Fortuna midfielder Tesfaldet Tekie.
AZ played everything but a run after the lead. Also because Fortuna simply has the duo Zian Flemming – Mats Seuntjens in the front. For Flemming; the club has in their view too low a bid from England’s Millwall and trainer Sjors Ultee wants to prevent Flemming from leaving at all times. That is easy to understand. The attacker headed on the crossbar before half-time. Companion Seuntjens; who played against his old club AZ; attacked the goal of that club several times.
But the duo cannot prevent their much less talented teammates from gifting the game to AZ in the second half. Twice the Fortuna defense gave AZ the opportunity to double the score. Roel Janssen’s second capital error was a hit. The Japanese Yukinari Sugawara was able to easily score his first Eredivisie goal of the season after an intervention by teammate Dani de Wit.
Via another former AZ player Ben Rienstra; Fortuna came back to 1-2 in the final phase; where goalkeeper Peter Vindahl Jensen – still important in the first half with two saves – was not free. AZ’s victory was not really in danger for the Alkmaarders after that; although substitute Tijjani Noslin still had a good chance at the 2-2.
