There’s not much Maximilano Romero can do about it. However; the purchase of the Argentinian from PSV will be labeled a flop. After all; the Argentine striker has almost only been injured since his arrival. In three years; the striker played five games in the main force of the Eindhoven team. PSV paid ten million euros for that. Only strikers Sébastien Haller (Ajax) and Mateja Kezman (PSV) were once more expensive.

Ajax paid seven million euros in 2008 for the promising Dario Cvitanich. However; the Argentine striker had a fairly unsuccessful period in Amsterdam. Cvitanich scored thirteen times for Ajax before going through the back door to OGC Nice; where he still had a successful period. 37-year-old Cvitanich still plays football. This season at Racing Club at the highest Argentine level.

Marc Overmars picked up the young Mateo Cassierra at Deportivo Cali in Colombia; where the striker excelled at a young age. The striker also did that in Jong Ajax; but for the first time he clearly fell short. After a flopped loan spell at FC Groningen; the Colombian left; who is now doing well at the Russian Sochi.

With five million euros he was an absolute top purchase for FC Utrecht. Gerndt; Swedish top talent; had to make Ricky van Wolfsiwnkel forget in the striker. However; the striker failed to do so. Gerndt had private problems and often had to deal with aches and pains. Gerndt never found his niche in the Netherlands; which was disappointing for FC Utrecht.

Early on in his career; Norwegian top talent Tarik Elyounoussi chose sc Heerenveen; which paid around four million euros for the striker. An amount that the Frisians no longer cough up today. Elyounoussi was bursting with talent; but he could not become a regular basic player at sc Heerenveen. After a rental period; Elyounoussi returned to Norway. At TSG Hoffenheim and Olympiakos; Elyounoussi then still had a great career.

AZ paid around one and a half million euros in 2017 to strengthen itself with Czech top talent Ondrej Mihalik. Once arrived in Alkmaar; the Czech turned out not to have as much talent as expected. Mihalik was a big flop. Mihalik played only three games for AZ in two years and the market value of the striker plummeted. Yet AZ managed to sell the striker for almost a million euros to Viktoria Plzen.
