Erik Roqueta is the new U19 athletics coach

Football; A-Juniors-Bundesliga
Bayer’s U19 now has an athletic trainer

U19 coach Sven Hübscher gets support in Erik Roqueta for the athletic work with the talents. In preparation for the second half of the season; three test matches are scheduled for the Werkself talents.

After a four-week break; the Bayer 04 U19 began preparing for the second half of the A-Junior Bundesliga season on Friday. “It has been a long time since we had to do without football; so it felt good to finally be back on the field;” says coach Sven Hübscher.

He and his team didn’t have to start all over again. -The boys have received very intensive training plans from us for the winter break. As a result; we are already a lot further than we were at the start of summer preparation; for example;” explains the 42-year-old; who gave his team a break after the first few units. -We used the two training days in the beginning to get back into it. We released the boys on Sunday because school started again on Monday and the players were out at 6 am;” says Hübscher. On Monday; however; the next training for Bayer’s talents was scheduled after class.

The first full week of preparation is Saturday with the friendly against the U23 of Fortuna Cologne completed – a demanding test against an opponent from the Mittelhrainliga. Kick-off is at 11 a.m. in the Kurtekotten performance center. A week later; Bayer’s offspring test against competition rival Schalke 04. A new match against the U19 of FSV Mainz 05 is planned; but has not yet been determined.

During the preparation; Hübscher will rarely be able to fall back on his full selection. Since the start of the training for the professionals; the football player has usually had to appoint two to three talents. The main reason is the failures in Gerardo Seoane’s team. That continues until the first championship game of the new year against the front runners Borussia Dortmund This is not expected to change on February 6. “In the current situation; we just have to show spontaneity and improvise;” says Hübscher; who welcomed only 14 field players and two keepers at the start of the training; but did welcome a new colleague.

He is referring to Erik Roqueta; who has been the athletics trainer for Bayer’s oldest offspring since the beginning of this year. The Spaniard most recently joined Mexican first division team Chivas de Guadalajara as head of its athletics department; before spending five years in the youth academy of FC Barcelona. The position at Bayer Juniors was previously vacant. However; instead of taking action in the summer; those responsible have deliberately chosen to wait until the end of the year to honor Roqueta’s commitment.

-We are repositioning ourselves in football athletics to promote young talent. We have made some personnel changes for this. We are delighted that we have attracted another top executive in Erik Roqueta;– says Thomas Eichin; Head of the Performance Center at Bayer 04. Hübscher is also impressed by the commitment of his new colleague. “Erik is going to help us with his experience and take the boys physically to a completely different level than we did as laymen over the past six months;” the coach is convinced.

In addition to Roqueta; Daniel Adam will also work in the Kurtekotten performance center in the future. The 24-year-old student at the Cologne Sports University was part of the U17 coaching team last year and is now an integral part of Bayer 04’s football and athletics department.
