Lucie, with six months of crossfit behind her, rubbed shoulders with the ordeal of firefighters.

Admiration is mixed with suffering, by proxy, when we see them finish the course with shortness of breath and trembling in the knees. This Saturday, twenty members of the Gond-Pontouvre Crossfit Nightwing crossfit room put to the test the sports test that candidates for the firefighter corporal competition must pass, the “adapted professional course” in their jargon. With them, there were volunteer firefighters from Charente in the race for the professional firefighters contest. “As they have been received in writing, they will have to pass, at the end of December, three sports tests, swimming, light-luc, very hard (it is necessary to achieve the highest number of round trips at progressively accelerated speeds, Editor’s Note) and this trip, describes Mathieu Bazin, professional firefighter in Angoulême and sports director. A trainer arrived with his torture team.

For four minutes – five and a half minutes for women – you have to do cardio and strength exercises with a 22-kilogram shirt on your back and a 20-kilogram dumbbell in each hand. You even have to go under a table, dragging forty kilos of sand behind you. A grade of 20 follows. To be received, you must have more than 8/2O between all sporting events. “It’s not enough to have big arms. In firefighters they say you shouldn’t be good at one thing but average everywhere”, exposes Mathieu Bazin who will be a member of the jury of the sporting events in Bordeaux.

Lucie Vouillat does a quick calculation. “There are 62 kilos of load, twelve more than my weight, I think we are going to die”, laughs this 40-year-old caregiver, who in addition to tennis and running, started with crossfit six months ago. However, he passed all the tests, certainly less quickly than the firemen, but he came to the end. This is also the goal: break the closed image that crossfit hassmiles Antony Vang, the manager. The goal is to be able to do everything. » Performance doesn’t matter. Except, obviously, wanting to be a firefighter.
