Tokyo, November 16 (Jiji Press) – The Japanese Ministry of Health on Tuesday unveiled a draft proposal to introduce court procedures to facilitate the temporary custody of abused children to separate them from their parents.
The new draft system calls for the courts, as judicial bodies, to examine the appropriateness of the decisions of the Regional Centers for the Advice of Minors on the temporary protection of minors.
The draft also includes a proposal to create a new qualification to improve the capacity of local government workers and others to handle child abuse cases.
The recommendations were presented at a meeting of an expert committee of the Social Security Council, which advises the Minister for Health.
The Ministry plans to finalize the recommendations by the end of this year with a view to introducing legislation to review the Child Welfare Law to next year’s regular Diet session.
