Prices rose again on geopolitical grounds for all cereals and in view of the origins for corn in particular.
Russian maneuvers announced at the border of Ukraine and the Black Sea, which severely hampered the movement of Ukrainian ships and thus exports, grain prices on the Chicago (CBOT) and Paris (Euronext) futures markets. So the French physical markets for soft wheat and feed barley boomed on Friday 11 February.
On the French side, the Ministry of Agriculture reduced its estimate of winter soft wheat areas to 4.75 Mha (-4.3%). Currently, the condition of the crops is relatively good.
South American weather market
In corn, as well as concerns about Ukraine ‘s export potential, which could be damaged if the conflict with Russia escalates, weather conditions in South America are the main factor supporting cereal prices.
Brazil expects a corn crop of 112.3 Mt vs. (vs. previously estimated 112.9 Mt, USDA estimated 114 Mt). For Argentina, the Buenos Aires stock exchange lowered its expectations to 51 Mt (57 Mt in the latest forecast and 54 Mt for the USDA).
On the international stage, it should be noted that Russian export taxes amount to $ 92.8 / t for wheat, $ 74.1 / t for barley and $ 52.7 / t for corn, from 16 to 22 February.
