MASK – For a week, the face of the French has appeared again. Finish the mask at work, at school, in shops or supermarkets. With the exception of public transport and health establishments, Wearing a mask is no longer compulsory.
This decision, the French approve it by a majority, as shown a survey conducted by YouGov for The HuffPost, which we are unveiling this Tuesday, March 22. 53% of those questioned say they agree with the lifting of the wearing of compulsory masks everywhere except in public transport.
Without too much surprise, it is the youngest who are the most favorable to this lifting. Indeed, 70% of 18-24 year olds and 63% of 25-34 year olds are in favor. The same proportion is found among students, who are also 70% to say they agree with this lifting, against only 40% of retirees.
When it comes to the mask in schools, the French are more likely to be in favor of the end of the mask: here they are two thirds (66%).
In company, it is also a little more than one in two French people who approve of the lifting of the mask, at 57%. But they may show themselves to be rather favorable to the end of this obligation, they nevertheless continue to wear it… More than two out of three people (68%) continue to wear it at their place of work, including 36 % all the time and 17% only in meetings or in groups.
In stores, masks are still legion
On the other hand, the lifting of the obligation in the stores does not apparently arouse the same enthusiasm, since they are here less than one in two people (46%) to agree with the measure. And this is also strongly felt here by the persistence of the French in wearing the mask in stores for three quarters (75%) of them. Here too, it is the oldest that we find: 83% of those over 55 are in this situation, against 69% of 18-34 year olds.
Like us The HuffPost approached him in this article, not all French people are ready to give up their masks after two years of the pandemic and habits that are now rooted in their daily lives. Feeling of being protected, fear of being contaminated when one is immunocompromised, or quite simply a habit that is difficult to get rid of are all reasons why the faces are not yet quite ready to be discovered.
Survey carried out on 1042 people representative of the French national population aged 18 and over, according to the quota method, from March 18 to 21, 2022. In partnership with:
