Margaret Zavalarepresentative of the National Action Party (PAN), attacked the saying against drug offices that on Tuesday the Assistant Secretary for Prevention and Health Promotion gave, Hugo López-Gatell.

And that is what the assistant secretary pointed out at the morning conference of the National Assembly that the drug offices are represented danger to health and life why They do not have the ability to treat chronic diseases.

“The basic idea that these offices became famous for was instant resolution, because you simply stop at the office and it’s done. But actually it is a great illusionthe offices adjacent to the pharmacy do not solve health problems that are more important”, pointed out sec Czar’s health.

“Anyone with diabetes, high blood pressure, or chronic lung or heart disease, like a large portion of the Mexican population, these clinics will not solve you or may even endanger your health and your life. This is documented,” he added.

In addition to this, he criticized working conditions of doctors who are employed in these establishments, where he said they are not compensated, they have regular contracts that do not create seniority, and in addition, doctors are under pressure to act as vendors, causing sometimes prescribe additional medications what the patient needs.

“Basically, health professionals are under pressure because they have to write prescriptions for a lot of drugs, because it’s the main interest is not to provide consultation, it is not to solve health problems […] is that (patients) come out with a prescription for 6, 8, 10, 15 drugs, the vast majority of them not correctly specified,” he said.

In that respect the opposition criticized that the Fourth Transition (4T) under President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) is seeking to disappear these drug offices.

One of them was Margaret Zavala, also the wife of former president Felipe Calderón Hinojosa (2006-2012), who pointed out that the current government does not care about the health of Mexicans, because in addition to wanting to remove these types of health centers in the past Seguro Popular “dismantled”.

“It was not enough for them to destroy popular insurance, nor with the demolition of the health system in Mexico; Now Morena wants to close the pharmacy offices. This is yet another of his brutal actions against the middle class and the poorest in Mexico.

According to the President of the National Association of Medicines in Mexico (Anapharmex), Antonio Pascual Fairwho said in an interview for The Millenniumthere are almost 18 thousand health centers adjacent to pharmacies (CAF), which provide more than 350 thousand consultations daily, which makes it impossible to remove this medical service, since thousands of people would be without medical care.

He pointed out that in Mexico there is none comprehensive health insurance to the entire population. In some cases, because there is a population that “don’t want to stand in long lines” in one of the medical units of your association for “minor illness”.

“Currently, there is no universal coverage of care for the entire population. […] They have been so successful because of the closeness they have to the communities, for reducing the number of times when it comes to lesser evils and not wasting time in waiting rooms’.

According to López-Gatell, the elimination of pharmacies will be gradual, recognizing that there is not “a sufficient supply of doctors and public health centers” but that It will be covered by AMLO’s health care system.
