As the latest outbreak in the Chinese capital continues its upward trend, Beijing will strictly follow the dynamic zero COVID-19 policy by taking prompt and targeted measures to contain the epidemic, said Pang Xinghuo, deputy director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. from Beijing.

The capital reported 59 new cases of locally transmitted COVID-19 in the 24 hours since Monday afternoon, bringing the total number of infections to 836, counted since April 22. Currently, the capital has 15 districts involved.

In recent days, the daily average of locally transmitted infections hovers around 50 people. A new cluster of workplace infections was discovered on Tuesday in the Fangshan district. On Monday, more than 20 people working at a Shunyi data center tested positive.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Beijing had 21 high-risk COVID-19 areas and 34 medium-risk areas.

“This cluster has a large scale, and the confirmed cases visited a wide range of places in the city, involving seven counties, including Shunyi, Haidian, Fengtai, Chaoyang, Tongzhou, Changping and Xicheng,” Pan said.

“It is expected that in the near future the contagion of this group will continue to increase, although the situation is under control and since strong prevention measures have been taken,” he said.

Zhang Yanlin, deputy director of Shunyi, said the district has identified 1,897 close contacts and 1,646 potential contacts related to the new cases in this cluster.

“All the contacts who are in Shunyi have been transferred to the centralized quarantine, and the information of those who are not in Shunyi has been handed over to authorities in other districts.” In addition, the 103 places with risks of infection have already been disinfected,” Zhang added.

So far, 13 residential communities have been designated as controlled zones and 37 communities as precautionary zones.

From Tuesday to Thursday, Shunyi will conduct three consecutive massive nucleic acid tests.
