The Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP) has published a new bulletin on electronic payment method entities (EMPE), corresponding to March 2022, including the key statistics of that item.
In the third month of the current year, the electronic wallets in our country moved G. 1.13 billion, equivalent to about USD 163 million at the current exchange rate (G. 6,900 per dollar), according to the number of officials. .
In this way, the amount transferred through the EMPE so far this year is G. 13.1 billion, which is equivalent to about USD 450 million, a similar amount in the first three months of last year.
Get up. In terms of the number of operations registered in the system, it is clear that the figure of 9.3 million was reached punctually last March, representing a year – on – year increase (for March 2021) of almost 11%. .
This also represents a jump compared to the previous months of 2022, recalling that there were 8.5 million transactions in January, and last February there were 8.4 million operations, always according to reports published by the mother -financial entity. On average, about 9 million transactions are recorded each month through electronic wallets.
By types. Taking into account the different types of operations performed through the enabled accounts in the different EMPEs on the market, it is clear that the main ones are cash in (ie converting cash to electronic money) and cash out (on the contrary) . . ), followed by a national twist. In terms of volume, these three specific operations represent 80% of the total achieved in March 2022, and in terms of number of operations account for 44% of all that was accounted for.
ACCOUNTS. On the other hand, the number of current accounts in our country, according to information from the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP), reached 6.2 million at the end of the first quarter of 2022. However, the number of active accounts was 2.3 million.
During 2020, the Covid-19 crisis prompted an increase in the use of electronic wallets, which are enabled through the EMPE. Data previously provided by the Association of Payment Methods of Paraguay (CPMP) have shown that the greatest growth in this method coincided with the most intense period of quarantine.
Similarly, last year, digital wallet moved almost USD 1.9 billion. The largest operations movement is traditionally reported in December, coinciding with the time when more money is circulating within the economy at the end of the year.
