(CNN Spanish) –– At least seven people have died and one other person was seriously injured after shootings in two different locations in Half Moon Bay, a small coastal community in central California, authorities said. This incident is the second mass shooting in the state in three days.
The suspect, identified as 67-year-old Chunli Zhao, was taken into custody more than two hours after the shooting Monday, according to San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus. Authorities believe Zhao acted alone.
“This is a terrible tragedy for this community and for the families affected by this unspeakable act of violence,” Corpus said Monday night during a news conference.
Authorities received the alert about a shooting in an unincorporated area of San Mateo County at 2:22 pm local time (5:22 pm Miami time), the sheriff said. They found four victims dead and one wounded when they arrived at the first location, and shortly after, three more victims were found dead at another location, Corpus said.

One of the shootings happened at a mushroom farm and another near a trucking facility about 2 miles from the farm, Dave Pine, chairman of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, told CNN.
At 4:40 p.m., a law enforcement officer located the suspect in his vehicle inside the parking lot of the Half Moon Bay sheriff’s substation, Corpus said. He was detained without incident. At that time, a semi-automatic pistol was found in her vehicle, the official said.

“A shooting like this is horrible,” Corpus said. “It’s a tragedy that we hear about often, but today it has come to our home here in San Mateo County,” he said.
The motive for the shooting is still unknown, the sheriff said.
The Gov said Gavin Newsom said he was at a hospital meeting with victims of the Monterey Park mass shooting when “he was pulled over to tell him about another shooting.” This time in Half Moon Bay.
“Tragedy after tragedy,” Newsom tweeted.

Half Moon Bay is located on the Pacific coast and about 45 kilometers south of San Francisco, within the westernmost part of San Mateo County, according to information on the city’s website.
