What is Play-In and how does it work?

Prior to the Playoffs, the Conference Playoffs will take place. What about it? From a series of games that will define the ranked seventh and eighth from the East and the West.

The fight for the Play-In in the East

While the Bucks, Sixers, Celtics and Cavaliers will finish in the top six in the conference, there is another a series of teams that are still fighting to get directly into the postseasonthat they must finish within the Top 6.

Today these groups would be New Yorkers Nets and Knickswho have achieved a good difference over there Miami, Atlanta, Toronto, Chicago, Indiana and Washingtonmain contender to complete the Play-In table, from 7th to 10th place.

The fight for the Play-In in the West

Qualifying in the West is extremely tight and some teams have yet to decide if they will go straight for it Will play playoffs (Top 6), Play-In (7th to 10th) or stay out of the postseason (11th down). Tiebreaker scenarios and criteria for the 2023 NBA Play-In

The order in each conference is dictated by games won, and are the tie-break criteria:

  1. If the tiebreaker is between a division leader and another non-leader team(s), the division leader will prevail.
  2. The percentage who won the best game among those who participated in the game.
  3. A better winning percentage against teams from the same division (unless the tied teams belong to the same division).
  4. The best winning percentage against a team from the Conference itself.
  5. Best winning percentage against teams that qualified for the Conference Playoffs (including teams that finish tied for a playoff spot).
  6. Better winning percentage against teams that qualified for the other Conference Playoffs (including teams that finish tied for a Playoff spot).
  7. The best difference in points scored and received against all competitors (point difference).
