The police arrested six men last week in the investigation into the disturbances during the AZ-NEC match on Saturday 20 November. The suspects come from Alkmaar and are between the ages of 18 and 34. They are suspected of various criminal offences; including public assault.

On Saturday 20 November there was a match in the AZ station that was played without an audience due to the corona measures in force. Already at the start of the match it was restless outside the station where a group of people had gathered. Several people entered the stadium during the match. They set off fireworks there; some of which were aimed at the police and stewards present. Also destruction was done and they went onto the field. Due to the disturbances; the game had to be temporarily halted.

After the match; the football quadrangle; consisting of the AZ football club; the mayor of Alkmaar; the police and the Public Prosecution Service; rejected the violence and made joint agreements to take measures.

The police; led by the Public Prosecution Service; has launched a criminal investigation into the disturbances. In this investigation; the six suspects came forward; they were arrested. The suspects were taken to the police station and questioned. Then all six of them were sent away. They will have to answer to the judge at a later date. The public prosecutor has imposed a reporting obligation and a location ban on the suspects. They must report to the police on AZ match days and may not be near the stadium.
