Arne Slot impresses this season as Feyenoord’s trainer. The 43-year-old coach previously impressed as an assistant coach at SC Cambuur.

“A perfectionist who continuously puts energy into details”; says Cambuur director Gerald van den Belt in Football International. The Cambuur supporters did not always understand the team’s tactics when an attacker reached the back line and then withdrew the ball. Cambuur’s technical staff; however; preferred to play through the ‘hot zone’ for a full chance instead of a ‘half chance’ via a cross.

Van den Belt can still remember a supporters evening; in which Slot convinced the fans. “Arne Slot wanted the full support of the home crowd; because this could influence the arbitration. So he organized an evening and gave the supporters two hours of football lecture; complete with video images. And received applause;” said Van den Belt.

The director of Cambuur previously worked at PEC Zwolle; where Slot was still playing at that time. Van den Belt knows that Slot looks like an ‘ideal son-in-law’; but also knows the other side. “Arne has survived his entire life in a rather hard biotope. He feels at home there and has always held his own in plows with large basins.”

“He does it all correctly and neatly; but he really didn’t fall for it;” continues Van den Belt. “He is full of swagger and guts. Slot is not a street fighter; but he does have a certain street mentality.”
